Tamil Nadu has long been recognized as one of the historic centers of traditional healing systems, preserving centuries of indigenous medical wisdom passed down through generations. Traditional Vaithyas have played a significant role in serving rural communities, safeguarding cultural heritage, and providing accessible healthcare based on time-honored knowledge and practices.
The members of ITMA sincerely hope that the new administration will usher in a progressive era that strengthens the welfare of Traditional Vaithyas, supports the preservation of indigenous medical knowledge, and encourages greater recognition of traditional healing systems within society.
We respectfully appeal to the new government to take meaningful steps toward the recognition, documentation, protection, and promotion of traditional medical practitioners and their invaluable contributions to public health. Traditional medicine forms an important part of Tamil Nadu’s cultural identity and healthcare heritage, and its preservation is essential for future generations.
ITMA believes that a balanced healthcare system can benefit from the coexistence of modern medicine and validated traditional knowledge. Therefore, we hope the new government will create opportunities for dialogue, research, education, and appropriate policy support that help preserve authentic traditional healing traditions while ensuring public safety and quality standards.
